It is Hazelight's second game following A Way Out (2018) and was developed with a staff of 60 people. By April 2026, it had sold over 30 million copies, making it one of the best-selling cooperative games ever made.
The story follows Cody and May, a married couple who have decided to divorce and have been keeping the news from their young daughter Rose. After Rose accidentally transforms them into dolls using a spell from a book given to her by their couples counselor, a talking self-help book named Dr. Hakim, the two are forced to work through their fractured relationship to find a way back to their human forms and their daughter. The narrative draws direct inspiration from romantic comedies, and the themes of each chapter are reflected in the gameplay mechanics introduced within it.
Hazelight built every level around a distinct mechanical concept, swapping out the tools and abilities available to both players as the story progresses. Across the game's chapters, players wield magnets, control time, use sentient nails and hammers, operate paired guns that interact with each other, and navigate environments that reflect the emotional state of the couple. No two chapters play the same way, and the mechanical shifts are designed to mirror and reinforce the narrative beats of the relationship arc.
