About Jurassic Park: The Game
Jurassic Park: The Game is an episodic graphic adventure developed and published by Telltale Games, in a licensing partnership with Universal Partnerships & Licensing. It was announced in June 2010 and released on November 15, 2011, for PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, arriving as a complete four-episode package on all platforms.
Set on Isla Nublar during and shortly after the systems failure that devastates the park in the original film, the story centers on the retrieval of a canister of dinosaur embryos originally stolen by Dennis Nedry and lost in the jungle. A new cast of characters, including park veterinarian Gerry Harding and mercenary Nima Cruz, drives the story forward across the four episodes, encountering dinosaur behavior researched with input from paleontologist Kevin Padian to keep it grounded in plausible animal behavior rather than pure spectacle.
Gameplay was heavily influenced by 2010's Heavy Rain, built around cinematic quick time events where players press specific button combinations at the right moment to progress through action sequences and dialogue choices. It was the first Telltale game where the player character could be killed as a direct consequence of failing these sequences, raising the stakes compared to Telltale's earlier, more forgiving adventure titles.
Jurassic Park: The Game received mixed reviews at launch, with critics generally praising its faithfulness to the source material and story while criticizing the passive, heavily scripted nature of its gameplay and some technical rough edges.
