Life is Strange: Double Exposure is an episodic adventure game developed by Deck Nine and published by Square Enix. It was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, 2024, and released on October 29, 2024, for PC via Steam and the Windows Store, alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch version following on November 19. Max Caulfield returns nearly a decade after the events of the original game, now serving as photographer-in-residence at Caledon University. When her closest new friend, Safi, is found dead in the snow, Max instinctively tries to rewind time, a power she hasn't used in years, only to discover it doesn't work the way it used to. Instead, she opens a path into a parallel timeline where Safi is still alive but still in danger, giving her a new ability called Shift to move between the two realities in an attempt to solve and prevent the same murder from happening twice.
The developers deliberately avoided declaring either ending of the original Life is Strange canon, with narrative director Felice Kuan stating the team wanted to respect both possible outcomes from Max's story while building something new that echoes her past. Chloe is referenced throughout without confirming her fate directly, keeping the story open to players regardless of which choice they made in the first game.
