About Mad Max
Mad Max is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Avalanche Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It was released on September 1, 2015, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, several months after the theatrical release of Mad Max: Fury Road. The game was announced at E3 2013 and originally planned for 2014.
The story is set in the Mad Max universe rather than adapting any specific film, though franchise co-creator George Miller was consulted during pre-production, and locations from the films, including Gas Town, appear across the world. Max Rockatansky, a reluctant survivor looking to leave the madness of the wasteland behind, works to build the Magnum Opus, a highly customizable vehicle, with the help of his mechanic companion Chumbucket. His goal is to fight past Scabrous Scrotus and his gang of raiders to reach the Plains of Silence.
Vehicular combat is the core of the experience, letting players fit the Magnum Opus with weapon and armor upgrades to fight enemy vehicles across an open world made up of deserts, canyons, and caves. Different tires, armor plating, and weapon setups change how the car handles and performs depending on the terrain and the fight. On-foot combat uses a free-flowing melee system similar to Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham series, letting Max take on groups of enemies directly when he's away from the Magnum Opus.
Full completion of the main story runs roughly 20 hours, with side content and vehicle upgrades adding considerably more time for players who want to fully build out the Magnum Opus and clear the wasteland's various strongholds and camps. The game holds a Metacritic score of 73 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
