About MARVEL Cosmic Invasion
MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is a beat 'em up game developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu, in collaboration with Marvel Games. It was released on December 1, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. It comes from the same studio behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, marking their first original collaboration with Marvel.
The story adapts Marvel's Annihilation storyline, previously unexplored in games or other media, following Annihilus and his Annihilation Wave as they launch an unprecedented assault across the galaxy. Fifteen playable heroes join the fight, spanning street-level and cosmic corners of the Marvel Universe. The starting roster includes Beta Ray Bill, Black Panther, Captain America, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Iron Man, Nova, Rocket Raccoon, She-Hulk, Spider-Man, Storm, and Wolverine, with Phyla-Vell, Phoenix, Silver Surfer, and Venom unlocked as the story progresses.
Each hero has a distinct set of moves built around a hero-specific attack, a standard melee attack, a defend option of either a block or a dodge, and a screen-clearing special move that consumes focus earned by landing hits on enemies. The Cosmic Swap system lets players select two heroes per level and switch between them instantly, opening up tag-team combos where the second character can be called in mid-combo for extended attack chains. This dual-character structure gives the game a heavier focus on crowd control compared to the developer's previous work.
The game runs on a full-color pixel art style drawing visual inspiration from the work of Jim Lee, John Byrne, and Jack Kirby, paying homage to a specific era of Marvel comics. Campaign Mode offers a story-driven playthrough suited to players of varying skill levels, while Arcade Mode adds unlockable modifiers for a steeper challenge. Levels take players from the streets of New York City to Wakanda and into the depths of the Negative Zone. Up to four players can team up in local or online co-op with drop-in and drop-out support and adaptive difficulty. Cyclops and The Thing were added as paid DLC characters on May 18, 2026. The game holds a Metacritic score of 81 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
