Where the original game had players defending Hell from an invasion by Heaven, Monster Train 2 flips the premise: Titans have seized control of Heaven itself, forcing a reluctant alliance between former angels and demons who must now work together against a shared threat. Players command clans of monsters aboard a newly built train, traveling through Hell, Heaven, and the Abyss to defeat the Titans before they destroy the world. The core three-floor vertical battlefield returns from the original, with enemies climbing the train toward a pyre on the top floor that players must defend at all costs.
Five new playable clans join the roster, each bringing distinct strategies and hundreds of new cards alongside returning favorites from the first game. New card types include Room Cards, which enhance a specific floor of the train, alongside new Equipment cards and Active Abilities that add fresh layers of strategic depth on top of the established deck-building foundation. A new Deployment Phase and Pyre Hearts system further expand on the core gameplay loop established in the first game.
