About Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition
Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition is a fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 28, 2012, with the PC version arriving on Steam on July 3, 2013, ported by High Voltage Software. It is the complete edition of Mortal Kombat (2011), the ninth main installment in the franchise and a soft reboot of the series, bundling the base game with all previously released downloadable content.
The game is set as both a sequel and a reimagining, starting after the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon before sending players back through a new timeline covering the events of the first three Mortal Kombat games. Raiden sends a message to his past self to prevent Armageddon, but the message is misinterpreted, setting off a chain of events that changes the course of the realms. The story mode runs as a full cinematic campaign spanning multiple chapters from different characters' perspectives.
Combat returns to a 2.5D fighting plane following the franchise's earlier 3D era, with X-Ray moves allowing players to execute brutal slow-motion attacks that deal heavy damage and showcase internal bone and organ damage in graphic detail. A Tag Team mode lets two players or two AI fighters be swapped in and out during a single match. The Challenge Tower presents over 300 ladder-style challenges covering a wide range of combat conditions, modifiers, and minigames. King of the Hill is an online spectator mode where players watch others fight and rate their performances while waiting for their turn to enter the queue.
The Komplete Edition adds four DLC fighters to the full base roster: Skarlet, a blood-manipulating female ninja warrior; Kenshi, a blind swordsman who fights using telekinesis; Rain, an Edenian prince with water and lightning-based abilities; and Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Fifteen Klassic Skins based on the appearances of characters from the original games are included, along with three Klassic Fatalities for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Reptile drawn from earlier entries in the series.
Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition was removed from Steam on March 21, 2020, due to changes with WB Games' network, and is no longer available through official digital storefronts. Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition holds a Metacritic score of 81 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
