About Planet Coaster 2
Planet Coaster 2 is a theme park construction and management simulation developed and published by Frontier Developments. It was released on November 6, 2024, for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The game is a direct sequel to Planet Coaster (2016) and expands on its predecessor with a range of new features and content. The most significant addition is the waterpark building and management. Players can construct water slides, lazy rivers, swimming pools, and splash zones alongside traditional roller coasters and rides, combining both within a single park. Lifeguards, shade structures, and pool maintenance systems add a layer of management specific to water attractions.
The building and pathing tools have been rebuilt and refined based on feedback from the original game. Terrain sculpting gives players more control over the shape of the ground beneath their parks, and a new theming system covers Resort, Aquatic, Viking, and Mythology styles, each with its own scenery pieces and ride skins. An event sequencer lets players choreograph light shows, fireworks, and synchronized park performances tied to specific triggers.
Park management has been expanded with heat maps that provide a real-time overview of guest needs across the entire park. Selecting individual guests or staff members reveals specific feedback that can be acted on directly, making it easier to identify and fix issues without combing through menus.
Career, sandbox, and challenge modes all return. Cross-platform co-op lets players visit each other's parks or build new ones together, with save sharing available across platforms. Planet Coaster 2 holds a Metacritic score of 76 and a Mostly Positive rating on Steam.
Planet Coaster 2 is currently available on Xbox Game Pass. If you are already a subscriber, you can access it through your membership. If you do not have Game Pass, GameBoost offers Xbox Game Pass gift cards as an alternative way to get started.
