About Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 3 is a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. It was released on April 3, 2020, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game was developed concurrently with the Resident Evil 2 remake and runs on the same RE Engine.
The game is a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) and follows Jill Valentine, a former member of Raccoon City's Special Tactics and Rescue Service, during the city's final hours before Umbrella enacts a plan to contain the viral outbreak by eliminating all evidence of it. The central threat is Nemesis, a bio-organic weapon deployed with a single directive: hunt down and eliminate all surviving S.T.A.R.S. members. Unlike the Tyrant from Resident Evil 2, Nemesis is faster, more aggressive, and capable of wielding weapons, making each encounter more dangerous and harder to simply outrun.
Gameplay builds on the same over-the-shoulder third-person structure as the Resident Evil 2 remake, but with a faster and more action-oriented pace. Puzzles are fewer, and the environment moves more linearly, keeping pressure on the player throughout. A dodge mechanic unique to this entry allows Jill to evade attacks at the last moment, and a well-timed dodge triggers a brief slow-motion counter window that can be used to gain an advantage in combat.
The main campaign runs approximately five to six hours and is built with replay value in mind. A performance evaluation at the end of each run, along with post-game unlocks including costumes and a shop offering modifiers and infinite ammo weapons, gives players reasons to return.
Resident Evil Resistance is included alongside the main game, a 1v4 asymmetric online multiplayer mode where four survivors work together to escape scenarios controlled in real time by a fifth player acting as the Mastermind. Resident Evil 3 holds a Metacritic score of 77 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
