About Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 5 is a third-person shooter developed and published by Capcom. It was originally released on March 5, 2009, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a PC version following on September 15, 2009. The game follows Chris Redfield, now an agent for the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, alongside new partner Sheva Alomar. Their investigation into a bioterrorism threat in Kijuju, a fictional region of West Africa, pulls them into a deeper conspiracy tied to the legacy of Umbrella Corporation and events from earlier in the series. The story introduces new factions and enemies while continuing threads from Resident Evil 4.
Gameplay builds on the over-the-shoulder third-person shooting introduced in Resident Evil 4, with a faster, more action-forward pace and a stronger emphasis on direct combat. Players manage a shared inventory split between both characters, upgrade weapons using gold found in the field, and must coordinate with their partner to handle the range of enemies and bosses throughout the campaign.
Two-player co-op is central to the design. The entire main campaign is playable cooperatively online or via local split-screen, with both Chris and Sheva available as controllable characters. In solo play, AI controls the partner, though the game's structure means co-op generally produces the intended experience.
The Steam version includes the Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape story DLC campaigns, the Mercenaries Reunion mode with additional characters, and costume packs previously released separately on console. Resident Evil 5 holds a Metacritic score of 86 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.

Yes. The Steam version is based on the Gold Edition and includes the Lost in Nightmares story campaign, the Desperate Escape story campaign, the Mercenaries Reunion mode, and additional costume packs. All of this content is included as part of the base purchase with no additional cost.
Yes. The entire main campaign supports two-player co-op, playable online or via local split-screen. The Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape DLC campaigns and the Mercenaries modes also support co-op. In solo play, the second character is controlled by AI.
Prior knowledge of the series adds context but is not required to enjoy the game. Resident Evil 5 references events from earlier titles, particularly Resident Evil 4 and the original game, but the story is largely followable on its own. New players can start here without difficulty.
Mercenaries is a separate arcade-style game mode where players fight through waves of enemies within a time limit to build up a score and combo multiplier. Each character has a preset loadout, and the goal is to survive as long as possible and reach the highest rank. It supports two-player co-op and is separate from the main campaign.
