Bring your friends on the adventure! Only one player is required to own Survivors of the Void to enable the monsters, levels, and items to appear in-game for the whole lobby. Players without Survivors of the Void will be unable to select the two new survivors or permanently unlock new items, logbooks, or other content.
Press your advantage on the high ground. Unleash devastating shots from across the map with Railgunner’s first-person scope. Time your reloads, aim for weak spots, and change the battlefield. Railgunner is the ultimate boss killer. Instead of cutting down hordes, she eliminates her target in one shot.

Corrupt familiar items and unlock new powers! Receiving one of the 14 Void Items permanently alters all normal versions of that item. Corruption brings power, but it also brings changes. You’ll find that many items now do the opposite of what they once did. The Void ukulele’s electrifying music targets single enemies instead of crowds. Some items do something completely different!

Risk of Rain 2 is a co-op roguelike third-person shooter developed by Hopoo Games and published by Gearbox Publishing. It entered Steam Early Access in 2019 and reached full release with its 1.0 update on August 11, 2020. Console versions followed shortly after, with Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 ports arriving on August 27, 2024. The game is the sequel to the original Risk of Rain (2013), moving from 2D platforming into a fully 3D third-person perspective.
The story follows a crew of Survivors stranded on Petrichor V after their ship crashes, fighting through hostile terrain populated by increasingly dangerous alien life. Each run sends players through a series of procedurally generated stages, with the option to push forward toward the teleporter that advances to the next stage or stay behind to scavenge chests and shrines for additional items. A core mechanic governs every run: the game's difficulty rises continuously the longer a run lasts, regardless of how much progress has been made, creating constant pressure to balance exploration time against survival.
Ten Survivors were available at full release, each with a distinct kit of abilities and unlockable alternate skills, with more added through subsequent content updates. Over 110 items can be found across a run, stacking and combining in ways that create wildly different builds from one playthrough to the next. Equippable Artifacts unlock additional gameplay modifiers, including options like enabling friendly fire or randomizing which Survivor spawns at the start of a run, for players looking to vary the standard experience.
Risk of Rain 2 supports solo play and online co-op for up to four players. The Prismatic Trials mode offers a rotating set of timed challenge runs separate from the main game loop. The game was fully acquired by Gearbox in 2022 and continues to receive content updates, including paid expansions Survivors of the Void and Seekers of the Storm, both sold separately from the base game.
