Main features
The island
Biggest map made in Unreal engine 4 with 225㎢, based on all aspects of Croatian territory. From the beautiful Adriatic coastline, lush forests to harsh cold mountain sides. Riddled with various POIs including villages, towns and cities, military installations, factories and civil infrastructure. And lastly danger areas such as highly protected bunkers, abandoned ones filled with danger and a whole irradiated zone filled with dangers seen and unseen.
Metabolism
Take a deep dive into the most complex and greatest metabolism system ever done. Take care not only that you eat and drink to survive but also what you eat and drink to get the optimum experience out of your prisoner. Tying in to an in-depth health system and hefty RPG like system of attributes and skills, make sure your diet fits your play style, as much as you can.
Dangers
Plenty of dangers await you on the island. Experiments that went wrong in the form of mutated monsters and former contestants raised as puppets, other survivors willing to kill for their own benefit, radiation leaking from the rundown nuclear power plant and other players trying to make a name for themselves.
Craft and loot
Plenty of gear to choose from to help you in your survival, whether it is crafted or looted. Melee weapons, bows, firearms, clothing, bags and in-depth cooking system. A tool for every trade, what and how you utilize them is your choice.
Maintenance
Whether it is your favourite rifle, or that lucky pair of jeans, make sure your gear is properly maintained. Depending on it is how much gear you can carry, weapon jamming, quality of crafting.
Vehicles

SCUM is an open-world survival game developed and published by Gamepires, a Croatian studio based in Zagreb. The game entered Steam Early Access on August 29, 2018, initially published by Devolver Digital, before publishing rights reverted to Gamepires in 2019. The studio was later acquired by Jagex in December 2022, providing the backing to carry the game through to its full 1.0 release on June 17, 2025, following hundreds of updates during its nearly seven-year Early Access run.
Players take on the role of a prisoner dropped onto a fictional island under the control of the TEC1 corporation, competing in an ongoing televised survival contest for the entertainment of a global audience. Before anything else, prisoners need to remove an implant that prevents them from leaving the island, all while fighting to survive against both the environment and each other. Fame points earned through survival and participation in scripted events let players purchase and trade higher-tier gear at designated safe zones scattered across the map.
The game's defining feature is the depth of its character simulation. Metabolism, muscle mass, vitamins, hydration, and stamina are all tracked individually and affect how a character performs. Injuries carry real consequences: losing teeth means finding a way to liquefy food before eating it, and even bathroom habits leave physical evidence that other players can use to track someone down. Wetness, smell, cooking, medicine, hacking, and poison all factor into the broader survival loop alongside more familiar systems like crafting and hunting.
The island spans 225 square kilometers of forests, beaches, fields, abandoned towns, and airfields, traversable on foot, by land vehicle, boat, or aircraft. Combat blends player skill with underlying stats like stamina and health, and the game supports switching between first and third-person views, though third-person is restricted from revealing anything not actually visible from a first-person perspective to prevent unfair peeking. PvP network events pull players into enclosed arenas for high-stakes fights, with fame points and valuable loot on the line. Up to 64 players can populate a single server, with the option to rent a private server directly through the in-game menu.
The 1.0 launch update introduced a full map rework with major visual improvements, armed NPCs that pose both threats and loot opportunities, new vehicles including a seaplane and sports bike, and significant anti-cheat improvements. The game has sold nearly 6 million copies as of early 2026.
