About Sunderfolk
Sunderfolk is a tactical co-op adventure game developed by Secret Door, an internal Dreamhaven studio, and published by Dreamhaven. It was revealed on October 10, 2024, and released on April 23, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Drawing heavily on the studio's love of tabletop gaming, the game was designed around the idea of recreating the feeling of gathering around a table with friends, using each player's own smartphone or tablet as a personal interface for managing their character.
The story sends a party of furry Sunderfolk heroes on a quest through the Sunderlands, beginning in Arden, their idyllic hometown village, which the party has been enlisted to save. Combat plays out on a shared, hex-based tactical battlefield displayed on the main screen, while each player uses a companion app on their own device to select moves, manage abilities, and interact with the world without needing to crowd around a single controller.
Only the host needs to own a copy of Sunderfolk for the full four-player experience, since additional players join using their own smart devices as controllers rather than requiring separate copies of the game itself. Character customization, class-based abilities, and choices made throughout the narrative shape how each playthrough unfolds. Post-launch support has continued steadily, with a version 1.5 update adding new one-shot missions and a version 2.0 update introducing fully featured online multiplayer for PC players, alongside a new tank class and two new Scenarios, Sacred Sand and Arena Rumble, each telling connected stories across a series of increasingly difficult missions.
Sunderfolk won Grand Winner for Best Innovation and Best Family PC Game at the 2025 NYX Game Awards and holds a Metacritic score of 79 alongside a Very Positive rating on Steam.
