About Until Dawn

Until Dawn is an interactive drama survival horror game originally developed by Supermassive Games. The PC version is a remake developed by Ballistic Moon and published by PlayStation PC LLC, released on October 4, 2024, for PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. The original game launched on PlayStation 4 on August 25, 2015. Until Dawn holds a Metacritic score of 72 and a Mostly Positive rating on Steam.

The game follows a group of eight young adults who return to Blackwood Mountain Lodge one year after two of their friends vanished under mysterious circumstances. Stranded overnight by a snowstorm, the group soon realizes something dangerous is hunting them on the mountain. Players take control of each character at various points throughout the night, directing their movements, finding clues, and making decisions that shape how the story unfolds.

The Butterfly Effect system connects player choices to consequences that ripple through the narrative. A decision made early in the game can have significant effects on events hours later, and no character is guaranteed to survive. Playthroughs can end very differently depending on the choices made and the clues found throughout the night. The game has multiple endings based on how many characters the player keeps alive.

The remake was rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 by Ballistic Moon, a studio founded by Supermassive Games alumni. The PC version introduces a new third-person camera perspective that replaces the original's fixed cinematic angles, along with additional dialogue and character development not present in the 2015 release. Technical additions cover unlocked frame rates, ray-traced reflections and shadows, NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR support, and DualSense haptic feedback for wired controllers.
