About Visions of Mana
Visions of Mana is an action RPG developed by Ouka Studios and published by Square Enix. It was released on August 29, 2024, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The game marks the first mainline entry in the Mana series since Dawn of Mana in 2006, returning to the action RPG roots of earlier titles in the franchise. The story follows Val, a newly appointed Soul Guard tasked with protecting Hinna, his childhood friend who has been chosen as the Alm of Fire, as she makes the pilgrimage to the Tree of Mana. Along the way, the two encounter a cast of companions whose own stories become intertwined with the journey, and begin to question the nature of the world's long-held traditions.
Combat is real-time and built around Elemental Vessels, mystical artifacts tied to the elements that allow players to switch between different combat classes during battle. Each class brings a different moveset and playstyle, letting players adapt on the fly. The party consists of three active characters drawn from a playable roster of five, with supporting companions assisting from the sidelines. Players can switch between characters during combat to take advantage of different abilities and elemental matchups.
Exploration takes place across a semi-open world filled with distinct environments, monster encounters, and collectibles. Pikul mounts allow for faster traversal across the field, making it easier to cover larger areas and reach otherwise distant locations. The Denuvo DRM that shipped with the game at launch was removed in February 2025. Visions of Mana holds a Metacritic score of 75 and a Mostly Positive rating on Steam.
