Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is an isometric turn-based RPG developed and published by Owlcat Games, made in close partnership with Games Workshop. It was released on December 7, 2023, for PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version following on December 11, 2025. The game heavily draws on the d100 tabletop system from the Rogue Trader tabletop RPG and follows the same isometric structure Owlcat established with their Pathfinder titles.
The story is set in the Koronus Expanse, a treacherous and largely unexplored region of space accessible only through the dangerous Koronus Passage. The player takes on the role of the Rogue Trader, a newly-discovered heir to House Von Valancius, one of the oldest Rogue Trader dynasties still active within the Imperium. After the dynasty's leader, Lady Theodora, is murdered during a succession dispute, the player is recognized as the new Rogue Trader and thrust into managing a trade empire, uncovering a Chaos cult called the Final Dawn, and navigating threats ranging from Drukhari raiders to the horrors of the warp itself.
Players lead a party of up to six characters through turn-based tactical combat and extensive social encounters, recruiting companions including the loyal seneschal Abelard, the unsanctioned psyker Idira, and the Navigator Cassia along the way. A major focus of the game is realm-building, where decisions made as the Rogue Trader shape the growth of a personal space empire over the course of the story, affecting everything from faction relationships to the broader state of the Koronus Expanse.
Two major DLC expansions have released since launch. Void Shadows, released Sepetember 2024, introduces a Genestealer Cult threat and a new companion, the Death Cult Assassin Kibellah. Lex Imperialis, released June 2025, adds the Adeptus Arbites faction and companion Solomorne Anthar. A third expansion, The Infinite Museion, focused on the Necron Overlord Trazyn, has also been revealed for a future release.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader holds a Metacritic score of 78 and a Very Positive rating on Steam. The game is also available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Premium.
