About Wildgate
Wildgate is a multiplayer space piracy shooter developed by Moonshot Games and published by Dreamhaven. It was released on July 22, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, following an open beta held earlier that June. The studio behind it, Moonshot Games, was founded by Dustin Browder (a former StarCraft II lead designer at Blizzard, who also serves as Wildgate's game director) and Jason Chayes (a Hearthstone veteran). Moonshot operates under Dreamhaven, the publisher founded and led by Mike Morhaime, co-founder and former CEO of Blizzard Entertainment. Several team members draw on backgrounds at studios like Blizzard and Riot Games.
The game blends ship-to-ship combat with fast-paced first-person shootouts across crews of players competing to claim the mysterious Artifact. Three modes are available at launch. Artifact Brawl tasks crews with either grabbing the Artifact and escaping through the Wildgate first or eliminating every rival ship to win by attrition instead. Fleet Battle scales the action up to two teams of up to 12 players each in large-scale combined combat. Treasure Hunt takes a more relaxed approach, sending crews to salvage treasure and escape with their spoils before getting caught or destroyed by rivals.
A player's ship functions as both home base and lifeline throughout a match, requiring ice, fuel, and ammo to stay combat-ready against whatever threats the Reach, the game's setting, throws at a crew. Combat spans hi-tech cannons and gadgets, environmental traps, and the ability to sabotage a rival crew's ship directly, though the same risk applies in reverse. Progression covers ship modules, first-person gear, and cosmetic skins, with all cosmetic content available through both gameplay unlocks and optional paid purchases, while gameplay-affecting items remain earnable through play only.
Wildgate holds a Metacritic score of 72 and a Very Positive rating on Steam. Wildgate is available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Premium.
