About A Way Out

A Way Out is a cooperative action-adventure game developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts under the EA Originals program, directed and written by Josef Fares. It was released on March 23, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game requires the EA app to run on PC and uses a split-screen format for the entirety of its runtime, whether played locally or online.

The story follows two convicted prisoners: Leo, a hot-headed criminal who has already been inside for some time and has a plan in mind, and Vincent, a more calculated newcomer to prison who wants in on that plan. The two form a reluctant alliance to break out together, and what begins as a prison escape quickly expands into a broader story about trust, consequence, and the lives each man is trying to get back to. The game is designed so that both characters are present on screen at all times in a persistent split-screen layout, with the screen occasionally shifting to give one side more prominence during specific moments while the other player retains control.

Both players make choices throughout the game that affect how specific situations play out. Gameplay varies extensively across the experience, covering stealth sequences, melee brawls, driving, shooting, and a range of minigames and environmental interactions.
