About Arma 3
Developed and published by Bohemia Interactive and released on September 12, 2013, Arma 3 is the definitive military simulation on PC — a game that asks more of its players than any mainstream shooter and rewards that investment with an experience nothing else in the genre can match. Set across two semi-fictional Mediterranean islands, Altis and Stratis, the game provides a combined 290 km² of meticulously detailed terrain covering dense urban environments, rolling hills, coastal towns, forests, and open plains that support every conceivable form of military engagement from long-range sniper operations to full combined-arms assaults across land, air, and sea.
The arsenal is extensive — 40+ weapons with customisable loadouts including short and long-range attachments, and over 20 vehicles spanning infantry fighting vehicles, tanks, transport helicopters, attack jets, and naval craft — all simulated with a fidelity that mainstream shooters never attempt. The single-player campaign follows Corporal Ben Kerry across three episodes — Survive, Adapt, Win — that track his progression from isolated survivor to squad leader across a conflict between NATO and the Canton-Protocol Strategic Alliance Treaty. Multiplayer ranges from official Defend and Seize scenarios to the Zeus game mode where dedicated Game Masters shape the battlefield in real time for other players. The real depth lies in the modding community — thousands of Workshop creations spanning total conversion mods, new factions, vehicles, maps, and entire new game modes have kept Arma 3 alive and expanding for more than a decade after release.
Arma 3 holds a Metacritic score of 74 on PC and a Very Positive rating on Steam with 90% positive reviews across more than 283,000 players — one of the largest and most sustained positive review tallies of any PC game ever released.

No. Arma 3 is not available on Xbox Game Pass and is a PC exclusive with no console version. Bohemia Interactive offers their own Arma 3 Pass subscription directly on Steam for players who prefer a monthly access model, but purchasing a key on GameBoost gives you permanent ownership at a competitive one-time price with no ongoing subscription required.
Arma 3 has one of the steepest learning curves of any game on PC. The control scheme is complex, the simulation fidelity is demanding, and the game does not hold your hand at any point. The built-in Bootcamp tutorials and Virtual Reality training environment help new players get started, but expect a significant investment of time before the experience clicks. Players who commit to learning Arma 3 consistently describe it as one of the most rewarding games they have ever played.
Yes. Arma 3 maintains an active multiplayer community more than a decade after release, with thousands of concurrent players on Steam at any given time and a large number of active community servers running both official and modded game modes. The modding ecosystem continues to generate new content that keeps the multiplayer experience fresh.
Yes. Arma 3 has one of the most extensive modding ecosystems in PC gaming, with tens of thousands of community-created items available on the Steam Workshop. Mods range from small additions like new weapons and vehicles to massive total conversion projects that add entirely new factions, maps, campaigns, and game modes. The developers have always actively supported and encouraged the modding community.
Arma 3 supports both. The single-player campaign follows Corporal Ben Kerry across three episodes — Survive, Adapt, Win — that take approximately 10 to 15 hours to complete. The game also includes focused showcase scenarios, firing drills, and Bootcamp tutorials for solo players. Multiplayer supports large-scale battles with no fixed player cap, official and community game modes, and the Zeus real-time Game Master mode.
Minimum specs require an Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz, 4 GB RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT or AMD Radeon HD 5670 with 512 MB VRAM, and 45 GB of storage on Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit). Recommended specs call for an Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD FX 4300, 8 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7800 with 2 GB VRAM, with 70 GB on an SSD or hybrid drive. Note that Arma 3 is CPU-intensive and large multiplayer missions in particular can stress even modern hardware.
