ARMORED CORE VI: FIRES OF RUBICON is a mech combat action game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It was released on August 25, 2023, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It is the sixteenth installment in the Armored Core franchise and its first entry in over ten years, following Armored Core: Verdict Day (2013). It also marks the first time an Armored Core game has received an official PC release.
Set in the distant future on the frontier planet Rubicon 3, the story centers on Coral, a substance once thought capable of advancing human civilization that instead triggered a catastrophic event known as the Fires of Ibis, burning through the planet and the surrounding star system. Fifty years later, Coral has resurfaced on the now-contaminated and quarantined planet, drawing rival megacorporations, a planetary liberation front, and an administrative authority into open conflict over who controls it.
Players control C4-621, an augmented human mercenary operating under the handler Walter, who has infiltrated Rubicon under the alias "Raven" to profit from the conflict while pursuing a way to reverse the debilitating effects of their own augmentation. The story branches across multiple playthroughs, with different faction allegiances and endings available through New Game Plus runs.
Combat is built around fast-paced, omnidirectional mech battles, with players assembling their Armored Core from a wide range of parts covering the frame, legs, arms, boosters, FCS, generators, and weapons. Every component affects movement, energy, weight, and firepower in ways that significantly change how the mech handles in combat. Players equip up to four weapons across both arms and the unit's back, mixing ranged, explosive, and close-quarters options to suit their approach.
