About Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a first-person shooter developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts, with the PC version co-developed alongside Swedish studio Coldwood Interactive. It was released on March 2, 2010, in North America and on March 5, 2010, in Europe for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It is the ninth installment in the Battlefield franchise and a direct sequel to Battlefield: Bad Company (2008).
The single-player campaign follows Preston Marlowe and the rest of Bad Company, an unconventional squad of US Army soldiers, as they work to prevent a Russian super-weapon from being deployed. Marlowe's squad fights through snowy mountain ranges, dense jungles, and dusty desert settlements across a story that blends action set-pieces with the irreverent humor the Bad Company subseries is known for.
Multiplayer places up to 32 players on PC across large combined-arms maps featuring infantry combat, ground vehicles, aircraft, and fixed emplacements. Four game modes were available at launch: Conquest, the classic Battlefield flag capture format; Rush, where one team attacks a series of objectives while the other defends; Squad Deathmatch, pitting four squads against each other; and Squad Rush, a condensed two-squad version of the Rush format. Four distinct soldier classes, Assault, Engineer, Medic, and Recon, each with their own weapons and kit abilities, provide the foundation for team-based play.
The Frostbite 1.5 engine's Destruction 2.0 system drives the game's signature moment-to-moment dynamism. Cover can be shot through, walls can be blasted apart, and entire buildings can be leveled, fundamentally changing how maps play over the course of a match. The system was a notable step forward for environmental destruction in the shooter genre at the time of release.
