A free Unreal Engine 5 overhaul, Conan Exiles Enhanced, was released on May 5, 2026, bringing improved visuals and performance to the base game at no additional cost.

About Conan Exiles
Conan Exiles is an open-world survival game developed and published by Funcom. It entered Steam Early Access in 2017 and reached its full 1.0 release on May 8, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Set in the Hyborian Age, the fictional prehistoric world created by Robert E. Howard for the Conan the Barbarian stories.
Players begin as a nameless exile, convicted and left to die under the desert sun, only to be cut down and rescued by Conan himself. From there, survival takes over: managing hunger and thirst, gathering resources, and warding off both hostile wildlife and other exiles across a massive, seamless open world stretching from burning southern deserts to snow-capped northern mountains. Character customization is extensive, covering race, gender, voice, and body sliders, and players can align themselves with one of several deities, including Set, Yog, Mitra, Ymir, Derketo, and Crom, each offering their own bonuses and eventual endgame content involving summoning a towering avatar of their chosen god.
Combat is action-oriented and combo-based, using swords, axes, bows, and siege weapons, with dodging, blocking, and mastering timing central to succeeding in fights. The thrall system lets players capture NPCs across the Exiled Lands and break their will on the Wheel of Pain, converting captured enemies into crafters, fighters, or entertainers who serve the player's growing settlement. Building spans everything from a small starter home to sprawling fortified cities, with a dedicated construction system supporting deep customization piece by piece.
Since launch, Funcom has organized ongoing content updates into themed "Ages," each bringing free gameplay updates alongside optional Battle Passes for cosmetic support. The Isle of Siptah, a major paid expansion, added a second explorable map with its own storyline and mechanics. Conan Exiles Enhanced, released May 5, 2026, brought the entire game to Unreal Engine 5 with significantly improved visuals, better performance, Steam Deck optimization, a redesigned UI, and the ability to travel freely between the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah for owners of that expansion, delivered as a free update to all existing owners with no exclusive new content locked behind it.
The game supports full single-player, co-op, and persistent online multiplayer, either on public servers or self-hosted private ones with full administrative control over rules and settings. Steam Workshop support adds an active modding community on top of the base game.
