You are a Traveler working for the enigmatic Collective, tasked with scouring the wastelands of the future in search of time rifts that will transport you to 1980s-era Poland.
In a desolate world filled with ever-present danger, your survival hinges on your ability to strategize and plan ahead. The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal.
You can manipulate temporal Anomalies to clear a path through the desolate environment, and will have to scavenge for resources to replenish your limited ammo and supplies. Good preparation is key. Once in battle, split-second decisions can mean the difference between life
and death.
The creatures you kill won’t stay dead for long. Fallen enemies can be absorbed by others — through a grotesque process called Merging — to become faster, tougher, and far deadlier.
The only way to stop them? Burn their bodies. And do it fast.
If you don’t, you’ll face ever-evolving abominations that will push your combat skills to their limits.
Your mission is to locate key people from the past who perished in the ensuing apocalypse. Using your all-powerful Harvester, you can extract their Essences and have them accompany you into the future.
But be wary: these essences have a profound impact on your journey.

About Cronos: The New Dawn
Cronos: The New Dawn is a third-person survival horror game developed and published by Bloober Team, built on Unreal Engine 5. It was released on September 5, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is the Polish studio's first wholly original IP, developed after their work on the Silent Hill 2 remake, and was self-published following the exit of their original publisher.
The story is set in an alternate history where an outbreak called the Change swept through 1980s-era Poland, turning the population into grotesque creatures called Orphans and leaving the world in ruin. Players control the Traveler, an agent dispatched by the Collective, a shadowy organization with its own agenda regarding the apocalypse. The mission is to travel through time rifts back to the days surrounding the initial outbreak, extract key individuals whose Essences are needed to shape the future, and bring them back to the desolate present. As the story progresses, the true nature of the Collective and the Traveler herself are gradually revealed through a narrative with multiple endings shaped by the player's choices throughout.
Combat is the game's primary challenge. Orphans can be defeated with firearms and melee, but simply killing them is not enough. Any enemy that is not burned after being downed can rise again and merge with nearby corpses, absorbing their abilities and becoming a significantly more powerful hybrid. This creates a constant resource management tension around ammunition, flame weapons, and when to burn a target versus pushing forward. The inventory and crafting systems support building and maintaining the Traveler's loadout across both the present-day wasteland and the past.
The visual identity blends Eastern European brutalism with retro-futurist technology, giving the environments a distinctive atmosphere that separates the game from more familiar survival horror settings. Time travel is built into both the story and level structure, with players regularly moving between the ruined future and the collapsing 1980s past as missions demand. A paid DLC expansion, Cronos: Lazarus, follows the Warden character in a prequel story set before the events of the main game, with a more aggressive combat focus and a release scheduled for Fall 2026.
