What is Bounty in League of Legends?

Bounty Definition
Bounty Definition

In LoL, a bounty is a bonus reward given to a player for ending an opponent's kill streak. When a player on the opposing team gets several kills without dying, they start to accumulate a bounty. This system is designed to encourage comebacks and add a strategic layer to the game.

How does Bounty work in LoL?

Bounties in League of Legends provide a way for a team that is behind in gold and experience to catch up. When a player on a team scores multiple kills without dying, they become "bountied" which means they have a price on their head. If the opposing team manages to kill that bountied player, they receive bonus gold for the kill.

The amount of this bounty gold scales based on how many kills the player had, going up to 700 extra gold for extremely fed carries. This mechanic ensures that no player can get so far ahead that the other team has no hope of coming back. It rewards coordinated play to focus the main threats, brings more tension when trying to protect or kill high-value targets, and enables big swings when a critical carry is finally taken down after a long streak.

What are Objective Bounties in LoL?

Objective bounties in League of Legends refer to extra gold given to a team that is significantly behind when they manage to secure major map objectives. Specifically:

  • If a team is sufficiently behind in gold, they will be designated to receive objective bounties. The amount of gold in the bounty scales based on how far down they are.
  • When this designated losing team secures one of the major map objectives - like slaying Baron, Elder Dragon, or destroying a turret - they will be granted the objective bounty gold to help them catch up.
  • These objectives are crucial for controlling the map and pushing to win, so the bounties incentivize the losing team to take risks and go for big plays to secure them. And it punishes the winning team if they allow the objectives to be stolen away.
  • The objective bounties disappear if the gold difference between teams closes to within a certain threshold, meaning they mainly factor in when one team has a sizable early game lead.

In summary, objective bounties add more tension around major objectives and provide losing teams a way to get back into the game if they are willing to take fights against their ahead opponents. It's another comeback mechanism alongside individual champion kill bounties.
