- Exorcise the demonically possessed
Your goal is to break Azazel's hold on the cultists. On each map, work together in a race against time to find key ritual items – some of which might be alive and unwilling - to complete the banishment.
- Escalating difficulty
Each possessed cultist’s rage and speed increases as the game progresses, as does the number of fiends they spawn to stop you. Your only means of defence is your UV flashlight.
- Replayability
Locked doors, ritual objects and item spawns are randomized, ensuring that no two games are the same. What's more, DEVOUR's unpredictable AI ups the game, making you second guess each and every move.
- Player progression
Players earn experience with each playthrough, increasing their Cult Rank and earning Ritual Tokens. These are used to unlock valuable Perks, which can mean the difference between living to banish another demon or an agonizing death.
- Nightmare mode

About DEVOUR
DEVOUR is a co-op horror survival game developed and published by Straight Back Games, an indie studio founded by Joe Fender and Luke Fanning. It was released on Steam for Windows and macOS on January 28, 2021, launching with a single map called Farmhouse. Multiple additional free maps followed over the next couple of years, starting with the rat-themed Asylum in April 2021.
The story is set in the same universe as the developer's earlier game, The Watchers. Players take on the role of members of a demonic cult called the Watchers of Azazel, who discover that their leader, or another cult member depending on the map, has become possessed while attempting to raise the goat demon Azazel. The remaining cult members must work together to undo the ritual and free their possessed comrade before it's too late, using stealth, teamwork, and quick thinking to survive whatever Azazel's manifestation throws at them.
Each themed map brings its own new manifestation of Azazel, new environments to explore, items to collect, and forbidden rituals to perform, with locked doors, ritual objects, and item spawns randomized across every playthrough to keep runs from feeling repetitive. A single session runs up to an hour, and the game's unpredictable AI adds a layer of tension by making it hard to predict exactly how each encounter will unfold. Players earn experience with each playthrough, raising their Cult Rank and earning Ritual Tokens used to unlock perks that can make a real difference in surviving a run. Nightmare mode offers a significantly harder challenge for players who have mastered the base difficulty.
