About F1 2021
F1 2021 is a racing simulation game developed by Codemasters and published by Electronic Arts under its EA Sports division. It was released on July 16, 2021, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It's the first title in the F1 series published under EA Sports following Codemasters' acquisition by Electronic Arts earlier that year, and the fourteenth main entry in the franchise overall.
Braking Point is the headline new addition, the F1 series' first fully narrative-driven story mode, spanning three seasons and following Aiden Jackson, a rising British F2 driver, as he battles his way from Formula 2 into Formula 1. Players choose from five selectable teams, Racing Point, AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo Racing, Haas, or Williams, and face off against returning rival Devon Butler across a story built with cinematic presentation, full voice performances, and dedicated character arcs.
Career Mode returns with an updated Research and Development system, new Quick Practice options, and a Real-Season Start feature letting players jump into a new career already in line with actual 2021 season results. My Team, the acclaimed ten-year team management mode introduced the previous year, expands with Department Events, giving players scenario-based decisions affecting sponsors, engine suppliers, and overall team strategy. A two-player online Career option lets two players progress through the same career mode together for the first time in the series.
Multiplayer supports Social and Ranked online races, Leagues, Weekly Events, customizable liveries, and local split-screen for two players. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC versions add ray tracing support and victory radio calls, alongside improved visual fidelity and faster loading times compared to the previous generation.
F1 2021 received generally favorable reviews, with particular praise for the new handling model and the Braking Point story mode's presentation and voice acting. It was nominated for Best Sports/Racing Game at The Game Awards 2021 and Racing Game of the Year at the 25th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. F1 2021 holds a Metacritic score of 86.
