How long does it take to complete the game?

The main story takes roughly 37 hours on average to complete. Players pursuing full job mastery, optional battles, and side content can expect significantly more playtime.

Description

Ivalice—a kingdom blessed by the light of the gods and ruled by the Two-headed Lion. A year after her defeat to Ordallia in the Fifty Years' War, the king succumbed to malady, leaving a mere boy of two to ascend the throne. Whoever was named regent would rule in truth, and thus emerged two rival candidates: dukes Goltanna and Larg, whose deeds during the war had earned them great renown. About FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles

FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles is a tactical RPG developed and published by Square Enix. It was released on September 30, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first time the original Final Fantasy Tactics has officially been available on PC. Original staff returned to lead the project, including director Kazutoyo Maehiro, art director Hiroshi Minagawa, and writer and scenario editor Yasumi Matsuno, alongside a new English voice cast including Cody Christian, Briana White, and Ben Starr.

Set in the kingdom of Ivalice, the story unfolds after the king's death, leaving a young boy on the throne and sparking a bitter power struggle between rival dukes Goltanna and Larg that spirals into the War of the Lions. Ramza Beoulve, third son of one of Ivalice's leading military families, and his childhood companion Delita, a commoner raised among nobles, find themselves swept up in this conflict, navigating ambition, betrayal, and honor as history's currents pull them ever closer to the abyss.

Combat plays out on three-dimensional isometric battlefields, with movement and action ranges shaped by each character's job class and stats, while terrain and weather factor into strategic advantage. Over 20 jobs are available across the party, including white mage, black mage, and dragoon, each granting unique abilities that remain usable even after switching to a different job, allowing for deep, flexible party customization across hundreds of learnable abilities.

The release includes two distinct versions playable from the same package. Enhanced features a ground-up graphical overhaul, fully voiced dialogue in English and Japanese, an updated and expanded script, a revamped UI, autosave, and new quality-of-life additions including a more accessible Squire difficulty, a turn order display, tactical view, and speed controls, making it the recommended entry point for new players. Classic recreates the original 1997 release paired with the acclaimed War of the Lions localization, offering a faithful way to experience the game exactly as it originally played. However, this version only supports XInput controllers or a keyboard rather than mouse input.

A 1.5.0 update added New Game+ alongside new settings, balance adjustments, and a Zodiac Compatibility feature. The re-release won Best Sim/Strategy Game at The Game Awards 2025. FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles holds a Metacritic score of 87 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
