About Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5 is an open-world racing game developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. It was released on November 9, 2021, for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows 10 via the Microsoft Store and Steam. A PlayStation 5 version developed by Panic Button followed on April 29, 2025. The game launched to over 10 million players in its first week, the largest launch for any Xbox Game Studios title at the time.
The game is set in a fictionalised representation of Mexico across 11 distinct biomes. Environments include colonial city streets inspired by Guanajuato, a living desert, an active volcano with snow-capped peaks, dense tropical rainforest, ancient Mayan ruins, a canyon road network, and a stretch of Pacific coastline. Each biome provides a different driving surface and visual character.
The campaign is structured around Horizon Adventures, a series of Expeditions that unlock new Festival locations and activities across the map. Horizon Stories provide standalone narrative missions tied to specific cars or characters, and PR Stunts place speed traps, drift zones, jump distances, and other skill challenges across the open world. Seasonal events rotate weekly, updating the map with new races, rewards, and Festival Playlist challenges.
EventLab is a creation tool that lets players build and share custom race and stunt events using assets from across the map. Over 500 cars were available at launch, with more added through updates and two major paid expansions: Hot Wheels (July 2022) and Rally Adventure (March 2023).
Forza Horizon 5 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. A single purchase via the Microsoft Store includes both the Xbox and Windows 10/11 PC versions with shared save data and cross-platform multiplayer. Forza Horizon 5 holds a Metacritic score of 92 and is currently available on Xbox Game Pass. If you are already a subscriber, you can access it through your membership.
