About Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights is an open-world action RPG developed by WB Games Montréal and published by Warner Bros. Games. It was released on October 21, 2022, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It is an entirely new story set in DC's Batman Universe, unconnected to the Batman: Arkham series despite sharing the same studio.

The story begins with the death of both Bruce Wayne and Commissioner James Gordon, an event that leaves Gotham City without its most iconic protectors and triggers a rapid rise in criminal activity and police corruption. Before his death, Batman left a pre-recorded message activating the Batman Family, four of his former proteges who now operate together out of the Belfry, a repurposed clock tower serving as their base of operations. Players control Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin as they patrol Gotham, take on escalating criminal threats, and investigate the secret society known as the Court of Owls, an organization dating back to Gotham's colonial origins, whose influence eventually draws the League of Shadows and its own agenda into the conflict.

Each of the four Knights has a distinct combat style and traversal method. Batgirl is a versatile fighter with hacking abilities and strong all-around stats. Nightwing is an acrobatic combatant who fights using escrima sticks and excels at aerial combat and parkour. Red Hood is a powerful melee and ranged fighter with mystical abilities stemming from his resurrection by the League of Shadows, using a soul-fueled leap for traversal. Robin focuses on stealth and gadgetry, using a teleportation system linked to the Justice League satellite for movement.

Gotham City spans five distinct boroughs, each with its own nightlife, criminal activity, and atmosphere. Players patrol the city each night, interrupting crimes in progress and gathering evidence to unlock new premeditated crimes the following night, with each case file in the main story unlocking as the investigation progresses. Gear and crafting form the game's progression backbone, with players collecting materials and schematics to craft increasingly powerful suits and weapons as their character's power rating climbs.

Two-player online co-op is available throughout the full campaign with drop-in and drop-out functionality. Heroic Assault, a separate four-player online mode added post-launch, tasks players with clearing 30 floors of escalating enemy challenges in a standalone arena environment.
