About GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE-
GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- is a fighting game developed and published by Arc System Works. It was released on June 11, 2021, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions followed on March 7, 2023, and a Nintendo Switch port launched on January 23, 2025.
The game is the seventh mainline entry in the Guilty Gear series, created by Daisuke Ishiwatari. The story follows the final confrontation with That Man, the figure responsible for the Universal Will project and the widespread destruction it has caused. The narrative is presented in a cinematic format with fully voiced cutscenes and a production quality closer to an animated film than a traditional fighting game story mode.
Combat in GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- was rebuilt with accessibility at the center. The game streamlines some of the more demanding mechanics from earlier entries in the series while preserving the depth that longtime players expect. Wall breaks add a structural dimension to each round, giving players the ability to shatter the arena wall and shift the fight to a new section of the stage. The Roman Cancel system, a Guilty Gear staple, returns with updated functionality that rewards creative use in both offensive pressure and counterattack situations.
The game launched with 15 characters and has grown considerably through four Season Passes, each adding DLC fighters from across the series alongside crossover guest characters. Online play uses rollback netcode and supports cross-platform matches. A comprehensive tutorial and Dojo training mode covers both basic and advanced mechanics. GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- has sold over 3 million copies since launch. GUILTY GEAR -STRIVE- holds a Metacritic score of 85 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
