Description

In Kerbal Space Program, take charge of the space program for the alien race known as the Kerbals. You have access to an array of parts to assemble fully-functional spacecraft that flies (or doesn’t) based on realistic aerodynamic and orbital physics. Launch your Kerbal crew into orbit and beyond (while keeping them alive) to explore moons and planets in the Kerbol solar system, constructing bases and space stations to expand the reach of your expedition.

Kerbal Space Program features three gameplay modes. In Science Mode, perform space experiments to unlock new technology and advance the knowledge of Kerbalkind. In Career Mode, oversee every aspect of the space program, including construction, strategy, funding, upgrades, and more. In Sandbox, you are free to build any spacecraft you can think of, with all parts and technology in the game.

Key Features

  • Build spaceships, rockets, and vehicles using any imaginable combination of parts, each with their own function that will affect the way your spacecraft behaves.
  • Take full control over your ship’s setup to execute complex flight maneuvers.
  • Manage your Kerbal crewmembers, including hiring, training, and sending them into space to become heroes.
  • Discover a whole star system with unique moons and planets, exploring detailed terrain at a vast scale.
  • Send your Kerbal crew outside their ships for “extra-vehicular” activities.
  • Dock spacecraft together to construct space stations, massive starships, and surface bases on new planets.
  • Use satellites to scan terrain and find biomes and other anomalies.
  • Set up communications networks to communicate between your spacecraft and Kerbal Space Center.
  • Research and develop new technologies to extract valuable information and resources from all over the solar system, and much more!

About Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program is a space flight simulation game developed by Squad and published by Private Division. The first public version was released digitally in June 2011, before joining Steam Early Access in March 2013 and coming out of beta on April 27, 2015. Take-Two Interactive acquired the game in May 2017, later publishing it under Private Division, its label for supporting mid-sized development studios.

Players take charge of a space program operated by Kerbals, small green humanoid aliens who have built a fully functional spaceport called the Kerbal Space Center on their home planet, Kerbin. The game's orbital physics engine is genuinely realistic, supporting real-world maneuvers like Hohmann transfer orbits and orbital rendezvous. Players assemble spacecraft from a library of parts, each affecting how a design performs, then launch and pilot it through Kerbin's atmosphere and beyond, with the ever-present possibility that a poorly designed rocket simply falls apart on the pad.

Three gameplay modes are available. Science Mode has players run experiments to unlock new technology. Career Mode adds the full administrative layer, covering construction, funding, strategy, and upgrades across the whole program. Sandbox strips all of that away, giving players immediate access to every part and piece of technology in the game to build whatever they can imagine. Kerbal astronauts, referred to as kerbonauts, can leave their spacecraft on extravehicular activities, collect science, plant flags, and repair damaged vessels while suited up.

Many parts in the game are directly inspired by real spacecraft hardware, including analogues of Sputnik 1, the Apollo command module, and the RS-25 engine. The game supports recreating actual historical missions, from Apollo moon landings to the Curiosity rover and the International Space Station, and its community has kept pace with real-world spaceflight news, including recreations of NASA's Artemis II mission. Two expansions were released for the base game: Making History in March 2018 and Breaking Ground in May 2019, adding new mission-building tools, servos, pistons, and deployable science experiments.

Kerbal Space Program has one of the most active modding communities in PC gaming, with community-made additions covering everything from new parts to improved physics and multiplayer, some of which have been officially adopted into the base game over time. Kerbal Space Program holds a Metacritic score of 88 and an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam.
