About Killing Floor 3
Killing Floor 3 is a wave-based co-op first-person shooter developed and published by Tripwire Interactive. It was released on July 24, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, following a delay from its original March 2025 launch window after community feedback from the closed beta led to further development work. Killing Floor 3 is built on Unreal Engine 5.
The game is set in 2091, nine years after the events of Killing Floor 2. The Horzine Corporation has continued its bioengineering program under Dr. Moorcroft, producing increasingly dangerous ZED variants deployed to suppress resistance. Players take on the role of Nightfall Operatives, members of a rebel group fighting to dismantle Horzine's operations and survive wave after wave of creatures sent against them.
Gameplay follows the wave-based structure established by the series. Teams of up to six players fight successive rounds of ZEDs on a shared map. Between waves, players spend Dosh, the in-game currency earned from kills, to purchase weapons, replenish ammunition, and upgrade their loadout at the trader station. Each wave escalates in difficulty and enemy variety, with a boss encounter closing out each session.
The Specialist system replaces the Perk structure from previous games. Each Specialist has 30 upgradable levels and a distinct skill set and team role. Seven maps are available at launch across a range of environments, alongside three difficulty modes and three boss encounters. Post-launch seasonal updates have added new maps, Specialists, ZED types, weapons, and narrative missions throughout 2025 and into 2026, including the Operation: Deep Freeze update in March 2026, which added a new Antarctic map and a new boss type.
