The game is set in Krat, a fictional Belle Époque city now in ruin. Puppet automatons have turned on the city's human population, and a plague called the petrification disease has left many citizens grotesquely transformed. Players control P, a masterwork puppet created by Geppetto, who must navigate the shattered city, uncover what caused the catastrophe, and find Geppetto himself. The setting draws heavily from the original Pinocchio story, reimagined as a gothic horror.
Combat is built on precise, timing-based mechanics. A perfect guard system rewards deflecting attacks at the right moment, reducing chip damage and creating openings for counterattacks. The weapon assembly system lets players split any weapon into its blade and handle components and recombine them freely across different weapons, producing a wide range of distinct moveset and damage type combinations. Weapons degrade with use and must be repaired between fights.
The Legion Arm is a prosthetic left arm that can be fitted with interchangeable attachments, each providing different combat utilities from electric charges to grapples and projectiles. A P-Organ skill tree unlocks passive bonuses and new abilities as players collect Quartz throughout the game.
The lie system gives players narrative choices at key points. Choosing to lie or tell the truth affects dialogue, NPC relationships, and ultimately the ending the player reaches. A prequel expansion called Overture was released in June 2025, with a sequel currently in development.

Every weapon in the game can be broken into two components: a blade and a handle. Each carries its own moveset, damage type, and scaling attributes. Players can freely combine blades and handles from different weapons to create custom combinations that suit their playstyle, and each assembled weapon can be upgraded independently.
