Story
A few years past, a young boy named Nata was rescued at the border of the Forbidden Lands, an unexplored region the guild has yet to survey.
After hearing the boy’s tale of his lone escape from a mysterious monster that attacked his village, the Guild organized an expedition into the Forbidden Lands to investigate.
A Living World
Environments within the Forbidden Lands can drastically change as the weather shifts constantly and suddenly. During the harsh Fallow and perilous Inclemency periods, ravenous monsters will venture out to hunt in packs, yet during the Plenty periods, wildlife is rich and abundant.

The monsters who inhabit these environments have been forced to adapt to the dynamic changes that occur, using their unique characteristics to survive and thrive.
Hunting

About Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds is an action RPG developed and published by Capcom. It was released simultaneously on February 28, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It is the direct successor to Monster Hunter World (2018) and represents the sixth generation of the Monster Hunter franchise, which began in 2004.
The game is set in the Forbidden Lands, an expansive and previously uncharted region that the Hunter's Guild has long been unable to survey. The story begins several years after a young boy named Nata was found at the region's border, and the player-character is part of the expedition sent to investigate the connection between the Forbidden Lands and the people who inhabit it.
Each biome in the world is capable of shifting between two distinct ecological states driven by seasonal weather events. A calm state gives way to a more hostile one as conditions change, affecting which monsters appear, how they behave, and what resources are available. Sandstorms and other weather events can alter the nature of a hunt mid-session.
Focus Mode is the headline new combat mechanic. It allows hunters to target specific body parts with greater precision, creating and exploiting wounds on monsters that deal additional damage and break parts down in a more targeted way. All 14 weapon types return with updated movesets built around the new system.
A Seikret, a large rideable bird-like creature, provides traversal across the world and allows hunters to reload equipment and swap weapons mid-quest for the first time in the series. Up to four players can hunt together with crossplay supported between all three platforms.
Post-launch free updates have added new monsters, including Mizutsune. A major paid expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, is in development for a 2027 release. Monster Hunter Wilds holds a Metacritic score of 88 and a Mixed rating on Steam.
