Developed and published by TaleWorlds Entertainment and fully released on October 25, 2022 following a lengthy Early Access period, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is the long-awaited sequel to the acclaimed Mount & Blade: Warband. Set 200 years before the events of Warband on the fictional continent of Calradia, the game places players in the middle of a collapsing empire and asks them to decide what comes next — whether through conquest, diplomacy, trade, crime, or any combination of the above.

The game's defining strength is the freedom it gives players to pursue their goals entirely on their own terms. Every playthrough begins with character creation and a choice of background that determines starting skills and equipment, but from that point the world opens up completely. Players can rise through the ranks of an existing faction, forge their own independent kingdom, build criminal networks in cities, lead cavalry charges at the head of massive armies, or simply trade goods between markets exploiting the game's simulated supply and demand economy. Battle mechanics allow players to personally participate in conflicts alongside their troops, commanding formations and fighting in first or third person across sprawling battlefields.

Sieges have been significantly expanded, with players able to construct siege equipment, bombard walls, and coordinate attacks on specific defensive positions. The marriage and dynasty system allows players to continue their legacy through heirs if their character dies. The War Sails expansion, released in November 2025, adds naval combat and the Nord faction for the first time in the series.
