It is the second entry in the My Time series, following My Time at Portia (2019), set in the same post-apocalyptic universe roughly 300 years after the Day of Calamity destroyed most of modern technology.
Players arrive in Sandrock as its newest Builder, a tradesperson responding to the desert city-state's call for help reversing its economic decline. Unlike the lush world of Portia, Sandrock is defined by genuine resource scarcity, a distinct desert identity that shapes crafting, farming, and day-to-day survival throughout the game. The core loop centers on gathering raw materials, crafting components at the worktable, and constructing machines that produce intermediate parts feeding into larger structures, transforming a run-down workshop into a well-oiled production facility over the course of the story.
Beyond crafting and construction, Sandrock layers in farming, cooking, dating, dungeon exploration, and action-based combat with dodging, blocking, and a range of craftable weapons used to defend the town from monsters. Over 30 characters populate the town, each with their own schedules, relationships, and storylines, with romance and marriage options among them. The main story is fully complete across multiple acts, running to a proper conclusion rather than stopping at a soft point, with side content including secondary commissions and ongoing workshop development continuing well past the credits.
Online co-op for up to four players launched on PC alongside the 1.0 release, letting friends team up to fight monsters, gather resources, and enjoy the sandbox systems together, with the mode kept spoiler-free by setting aside the main storyline and NPC side quests in favor of the core sandbox gameplay.
