About Party Animals

Party Animals is a physics-based multiplayer brawler developed by Recreate Games and published by Source Technology. It was released on September 20, 2023, for PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with a PlayStation 5 version following on January 23, 2025.

Players choose from a roster of animal characters including puppies, kittens, ducks, bunnies, sharks, dinosaurs, and unicorns, each with the same floppy, physics-driven movement at the core of the game's appeal. Characters can punch, kick, headbutt, grab, and throw opponents, as well as pick up a range of weapons found across the map. Strikes build up damage that temporarily knocks a character out. Players who fall off the stage or land in environmental hazards are eliminated, making positioning and map awareness just as important as landing hits.

Maps are built around distinct themes and interactive elements. Stages feature hazards including moving trains, icy surfaces, rising water, and other shifting conditions that change how each fight plays out. Weapons spread across the map cover items like crossbows, tennis racquets, and boomerangs, which can be grabbed and turned against opponents at any moment.

Three game modes make up the main ways to play. Last Stand is a free-for-all elimination mode. Team Score is a team-based mode where players compete for points across objectives. The Lab is a rotating selection of experimental modes with their own distinct rules. The full game launched with 23 maps across all three modes.

Online play supports up to eight players, with local split-screen available for up to four. Cross-play is supported between Steam and Xbox. Recreate Games has continued adding new characters, maps, and seasonal content through post-launch updates. Party Animals holds a Metacritic score of 76 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
