About Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a third-person shooter developed by PopCap Games and published by Electronic Arts. It was released on February 23, 2016, for PC via the EA app, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, following a multiplayer beta held earlier that January. It is the sequel to Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare and continued to receive major updates, when it was effectively succeeded by Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.

The premise flips the outcome of the first game: Dr. Zomboss has succeeded in taking over Suburbia, turning it into a zombie-controlled city, and players fight to either reclaim it as the plants or defend the zombies' newfound control. Story-driven solo missions are available for both sides, with Crazy Dave assigning objectives to the plants and Dr. Zomboss doing the same for the zombies. The Backyard Battleground serves as the game's central hub, a large area split between plant and zombie territory where the two sides constantly clash, and where players access customization, quests, and the multiplayer portal.

The game features multiple playable plants and zombies, expanding well beyond the original's roster with new classes, including some accessible only through tough trial challenges or the game's endless mode. Herbal Assault is the headline new mode, flipping the original's Gardens and Graveyards format so the plants attack while the zombies defend, supporting up to 24 players. Graveyard Ops, a zombie-side counterpart to the original's Garden Ops, joins most of the returning modes from the first game, with only Taco Bandits left out, later reworked into the new Capture the Taco mode. Every mode is playable solo, in four-player co-op, or online against other players, giving a wide range of ways to engage with the same content.

Twelve maps span a variety of settings across a Zombossified version of Suburbia, from urban cityscapes to open airspace, each carrying hidden secrets and collectibles to find. Players who owned the original Garden Warfare could import unlocked characters and abilities through an in-game mailbox, along with loyalty rewards tied to their rank in the first game, a feature that remained active until February 2017.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 holds a Metacritic score of 82, the game is also available through EA Play, included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. If you are already a subscriber, you can access it directly through your membership. If you do not have Game Pass Ultimate, GameBoost offers Xbox Game Pass gift cards as an alternative way to get started.
