Mewtwo is a Legendary Psychic-type Pokemon and one of the most sought-after catches in Pokemon GO. How to Get Mewtwo

Armored Mewtwo and Shadow Mewtwo
Armored Mewtwo appeared through five-star raid battles during two limited event windows, July 2019 and Pokemon Day 2020. It has not returned to raids since, making it a legacy Pokemon that new trainers can currently only obtain through trading with someone who caught it during one of those two events.
Shadow Mewtwo's method of capture has changed over time. Before Shadow Raids existed as a raid type, Shadow Mewtwo could only be obtained by defeating Giovanni in Team GO Rocket battles. Since the Rising Shadows event introduced Shadow Raids in May 2022, Shadow Mewtwo has also appeared as a Shadow Raid boss during specific event windows, which is the method used for its more recent appearances. Shadow Raids use a different mechanic than standard raids, requiring Purified Gems to subdue the boss as it grows enraged during the fight.
Mewtwo Raid Counters
Mewtwo is weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type moves, making counters from these categories the most effective choice. Mega Evolved Pokemon add a damage boost to raids and are strongly recommended for both standard and Shadow Mewtwo fights. Shadow Pokemon counters also deal more damage than their non-Shadow counterparts, though they take more damage in return.
Shadow Mewtwo raids are considerably harder than the standard version due to the Shadow Raid mechanic, which makes the boss grow enraged during the fight and requires trainers to use Purified Gems to calm it down. Groups of six or more trainers with strong, fully powered counters are recommended, while larger groups of eight to ten or more are better suited for trainers without ideal counters. Remote Raid Passes cannot be used for Shadow Raids at all, so trainers need to travel to the gym in person and use a standard Raid Pass to take part.
Weather conditions can boost a raid boss's performance, so trainers should check in-game weather before attempting tougher Mewtwo raids. Coordinating movesets and Mega Pokemon positioning with the rest of the raid group improves the odds of a clean, efficient win.
