What he finds instead is the Baker family, transformed into grotesque, nearly unkillable beings by a mysterious infection called the Molded, hell-bent on keeping anyone who enters their home from ever leaving. Survival takes priority over combat for much of the game, with early encounters against the Bakers deliberately built around evasion and resource management rather than straightforward gunplay.
The game's atmosphere leans heavily on tight, claustrophobic spaces and a door-opening animation transitioning between rooms, a callback to the earliest Resident Evil titles that adds tension without technically functioning as a loading screen anymore. Herb-based healing returns from earlier entries, and difficulty options span Easy, Normal, and a Madhouse setting unlocked only after completing the game once. Full VR support was built into the game from early development, letting players experience the entire campaign in first-person virtual reality on supported headsets.
