Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Price: $11.27 USD
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. Released on January 24, 2017, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, the game marks the seventh main entry in the Resident Evil series and its first told from a first-person perspective. Set in modern-day rural Louisiana following the events of Resident Evil 6, players control Ethan Winters as he searches for his long-missing wife Mia inside a derelict plantation home occupied by the infected Baker family. Built on Capcom's new RE Engine and supporting full VR, the game marked a deliberate return to the franchise's survival horror roots after the more action-oriented Resident Evil 5 and 6.

About Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom, directed by Koshi Nakanishi. It was released on January 24, 2017, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions following in June 2022. It's the first mainline Resident Evil game built on Capcom's in-house RE Engine and the first to shift the series to a full first-person perspective, drawing tonal inspiration from films like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Evil Dead.

Ethan Winters receives a strange video message from his wife Mia, missing for several years, and travels to a decaying plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana, to find her, ignoring her own warnings to stay away. What he finds instead is the Baker family, transformed into grotesque, nearly unkillable beings by a mysterious infection called the Molded, hell-bent on keeping anyone who enters their home from ever leaving. Survival takes priority over combat for much of the game, with early encounters against the Bakers deliberately built around evasion and resource management rather than straightforward gunplay.

The game's atmosphere leans heavily on tight, claustrophobic spaces and a door-opening animation transitioning between rooms, a callback to the earliest Resident Evil titles that adds tension without technically functioning as a loading screen anymore. Herb-based healing returns from earlier entries, and difficulty options span Easy, Normal, and a Madhouse setting unlocked only after completing the game once. Full VR support was built into the game from early development, letting players experience the entire campaign in first-person virtual reality on supported headsets.

Resident Evil 7 was well received as a genuine return to form for the series, with critics praising the RE Engine's visual quality, the puzzle design, and the atmosphere, while noting some criticism toward boss encounters, limited enemy variety, and pacing in the game's final stretch. It sold over 15.4 million copies as of mid-2025, making it the second best-selling entry in the Resident Evil franchise, and set up the events later continued in Resident Evil Village.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard holds a Metacritic score of 86 and a Very Positive rating on Steam. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Premium. If you are already a subscriber, you can access it directly through your membership.
