About Sniper Elite: Resistance
Sniper Elite: Resistance is a third-person tactical shooter developed and published by Rebellion Developments. It was released on January 30, 2025, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, marking the series' 20th anniversary. Unlike previous entries, this game introduces a new lead character, Harry Hawker, who previously appeared as a playable second character in the co-op multiplayer of Sniper Elite 3, 4, and 5.
Set in 1944 within Vichy France, the story unfolds alongside the events of Sniper Elite 5 rather than continuing directly from them. Hawker begins by neutralizing anti-aircraft guns to clear the way for a British bombing run on a Nazi dam, then shifts to his original mission of locating local French resistance forces. Infiltrating the German-occupied town of St. Raymond, Hawker searches for a dead drop left by a missing contact known as Vertigo, uncovering coded documents that hint at a terrifying Nazi superweapon project, the Wunderwaffe, powerful enough to guarantee a Nazi victory if completed.
Each level is a large, open sandbox with multiple approaches to every objective, letting players use stealth to bypass enemies, explore for alternate routes, or fight directly with an authentic arsenal of World War II weaponry. Weapons are extensively customizable through workbenches scattered across the campaign, letting players fine-tune scopes, stocks, barrels, and ammunition types to suit their playstyle. The series' signature X-ray kill cam returns, following each long-range sniper kill through the target's body in graphic detail.
Propaganda Mode is new to Resistance, unlocked by finding hidden propaganda posters throughout the main campaign. These missions cast players as an unnamed resistance fighter tackling time-based combat challenges separate from the main story. Axis Invasion returns from Sniper Elite 5, letting one player invade another's campaign as an enemy sniper for an asymmetrical cat-and-mouse encounter. A 16-player competitive multiplayer mode and a co-op Survival mode for up to four players round out the multiplayer offerings.
The full campaign can be played solo or in two-player online co-op throughout. The game holds a Metacritic score of 70 and Mostly Positive reviews on Steam and is available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Game Pass Premium.
