About Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is an open-world racing game developed by KT Racing and published by Nacon. It was released on September 12, 2024, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, following multiple delays from its original 2022 target window. It's the first mainline Test Drive game since 2012's Ferrari Racing Legends and the third entry in the Unlimited subseries, following 2011's Test Drive Unlimited 2, with creative direction returning from Alain Jarniou.

The game recreates Hong Kong Island at 1:1 scale, spanning over 600 kilometers of drivable roads across 14 districts, with left-hand traffic marking a first for the series outside of earlier Test Drive titles set in London and Tokyo. The Solar Crown competition, first introduced in Test Drive Unlimited 2, returns as the game's central racing structure, alongside meetings, transport missions, and convoys layered over a lifestyle-focused presentation of casinos, nightclubs, and rooftop hangouts. Players join one of two rival clans, the Streets and the Sharps, each holding a differing view of the world, and compete within their clan to climb its internal ranking while working collectively to overtake the rival clan.

Solar Crown Workshops handle vehicle customization, covering performance modifications across suspension, gearbox, and engine tuning, alongside visual customization through a livery editor with paint finishes, stickers, and decals. Performance and visual options unlock progressively based on a player's Reputation level and their standing within their chosen clan.

At launch, the game required a persistent internet connection even during solo play, which drew significant criticism from both players and reviewers, alongside complaints about PC optimization, driving physics, and a slow-paced progression system. Nacon and KT Racing have continued supporting the game post-launch with a Year 1 content roadmap spanning four seasons, including the return of Ibiza as a second location, alongside ongoing patches addressing performance and gameplay balance based on community feedback.
