About Windrose
Developed by Kraken Express and published by Kraken Express and Pocketpair Publishing in Japan, Windrose entered Early Access on Steam on April 14, 2026, and it's currently available on PC. You play a captain who dares to challenge Blackbeard. What starts as a grounded story of survival and revenge grows into a conflict between empires, pirate clans, and mysterious dark powers. It launched to a Very Positive reception on Steam and sold over a million copies within its first week.
The loop connects land and sea. You gather resources, craft gear, and build from simple shelters to elaborate mansions and fully developed forts, recruiting NPCs to speed up harvesting and production. You then captain a ship, fighting naval battles at range or closing in for boarding actions and moving straight from ship to shore, and the current Early Access version has three ships, from a nimble ketch to a versatile brig and a monstrous frigate. On foot, combat is soulslite, with parries, dodges, talents, and flexible loadouts, using sabers, rapiers, halberds, greatswords, pistols, and muskets against challenging bosses. Over 100 hand-crafted dungeons and points of interest are scattered across procedurally generated biomes.
You can play solo and offline, or in co-op with up to 8 players, though the developers recommend a party of up to 4 for the best performance in the late game. Because the game is still in Early Access, the developers plan to continue the story with more content before the full release.
