It is the first mainline Ace Combat game in seven years, following Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown in 2019, and it is built on Unreal Engine 5 alongside Bandai Namco's own Cloudly technology, which powers the game's dynamic, multi-layered cloudscapes. Those skies are a big part of the pitch, with dogfights that weave through cloud cover, missile trails, and weather as much as through enemy formations.
The campaign is set in late 2029, several months into the Republic of Sotoa's invasion of the Federation of Central Usea. You fly as a pilot who takes on the name Wings of Theve, a legend used to keep morale alive in desperate times, alongside three comrades whose squad connections drive the story through hard choices and high-stakes missions. Handling stays in the series' accessible arcade style, with fast dogfights, missiles, machine guns, and special weapons used against both aircraft and ground targets. Beyond the campaign, the game includes online multiplayer through ACE COMBAT ONLINE, with seasonal content and the series' first Premium Ace Pass, and it supports co-op and PvP for one to four players.
