About Chivalry II

Chivalry II is a multiplayer hack-and-slash action game developed by Torn Banner Studios and published by Tripwire Interactive. It launched on June 8, 2021, for PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Steam release followed on June 12, 2022, after a year of Epic Games Store exclusivity on PC. It is Torn Banner's return to the medieval combat series they established with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare in 2012.

The conflict between the Agatha Knights and the Mason Order plays out across a series of multi-stage objective maps, each designed around a connected sequence of escalating battles. Attackers push through gates, destroy siege equipment, burn buildings, breach castle walls, and eliminate key targets to advance, while defenders hold each position as long as possible. Maps are built to accommodate 64 players simultaneously, with the environment and encounter design built to produce memorable large-scale moments rather than small-unit skirmishes.

Four playable classes cover different roles on the battlefield. The Knight is a heavily armored frontline fighter built to absorb punishment and push forward. The Footman is a versatile all-rounder suited to most situations. The Vanguard is fast and aggressive, specializing in two-handed weapons and closing distance quickly. The Archer handles ranged combat using bows, crossbows, and javelins. Each class has multiple subclasses that determine the weapon pool available, and any weapon dropped on the ground can be picked up and used regardless of class, including environmental objects like fish, chairs, and flaming torches.

Melee exchanges involve light attacks, heavy attacks, stabs, overhead slashes, blocks, ripostes, feints, and kicks. Torn Banner described the intended feel as a bar fight rather than a duel, keeping the combat readable and momentum-driven without requiring frame-precise inputs. Catapults, trebuchets, boiling oil, and fire arrows contribute to the battlefield alongside mounted combat on horseback.

Brawl Mode is a separate free-for-all mode capping at 40 players and restricting all participants to improvised weapons only. Full cross-platform play connects PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players across all modes. Chivalry II holds a Metacritic score of 82 and a Very Positive rating on Steam.
