Set in the northern province of Skyrim amid a civil war between the Empire and Stormcloak rebels, the story unfolds as dragons, long thought extinct, begin returning to threaten the land.
The game's open world allows players to explore freely, taking on the main questline or ignoring it entirely in favor of the dozens of faction storylines, side quests, and Radiant Story-generated content scattered across Skyrim's five major cities and surrounding wilderness. Character builds are fully open-ended, with no fixed classes, letting players mix combat styles, magic schools, and stealth as they see fit. A Radiant AI system governs NPC schedules and behaviors, giving the world a sense of continuity beyond scripted events.
