Spec Ops: The Line is a third-person shooter developed by Yager Development and published by 2K Games. It was released on June 29, 2012, for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, with macOS and Linux versions following in 2013 and 2015, respectively.

The game is set in Dubai, buried under a series of catastrophic sandstorms that have left the city abandoned and in ruin. Players control Captain Martin Walker, who leads a two-man Delta Force team into the city on a rescue mission to locate a rogue colonel named John Konrad and the soldiers under his command. What starts as a recon operation deteriorates as the team becomes embedded in an active conflict, and the line between justified action and atrocity becomes harder to hold.

Gameplay is cover-based third-person shooting, with the player able to issue direct commands to squadmates during combat. Sand plays an active role in certain encounters, letting players trigger collapses to bury groups of enemies. Throughout the campaign, players are placed in situations with no clean answers, and the choices made carry consequences that feed back into the story. The game has multiple endings depending on decisions made across the playthrough.

Yager drew heavily from Joseph Conrad's novella Heart of Darkness and the 1979 film Apocalypse Now when building the story and setting. The result is a campaign that consistently forces the player to sit with the weight of their actions in ways that most shooters sidestep entirely.
