The game picks up with a new evil spreading chaos across not one but two worlds, sending a fresh band of heroes through the familiar Overworld and eventually into the Sift, an uncharted dimension full of mysteries, danger, and strange beauty. Along the way, players battle waves of mobs and face down tougher, more challenging new enemy types that test reflexes more than anything in the original game.
The sequel takes a notably different approach to exploration, building an interconnected open world with narrative events, settlements, fast-travel hubs, and caves and ruins that vary in layout between visits, rather than the more linear mission structure of the first game. Combat gets a real overhaul too: gear slots expand from 6 to 12, split into separate helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots pieces alongside new passive-bonus talismans, giving heroes far more room to build a unique loadout. Legendary weapons, armour, and artifacts now come with randomised item effects for extra variety, projectile weapons use unlimited, auto-recharging ammunition, and a new aerial leap ability joins dodge rolling for more options in a fight. Quests are split into main and side objectives, and matchmaking with party codes makes it simple to team up with up to four heroes in online, couch, or mixed co-op.
