Released on December 27, 2018, during Chapter 1 Season 7, the skin features a humanoid koi or goldfish design with detailed scales and fins. Players can acquire Fishstick through the Fishstick Bundle for 2,200 V-Bucks, which includes coordinating cosmetics from the Fish Food set. The outfit comes bundled with the Saltwater Satchel back bling.

Multiple variants of Fishstick have been released since the original. Frozen Fishstick is available through the Polar Legends Pack for $22.99. Fishpool, a Deadpool mashup, costs 1,500 V-Bucks and includes the Kelp-Corn Bucket back bling. Blinky Fishstick appeared in The Simpsons Battle Pass as a mashup with Blinky, the three-eyed fish from the show. The original Fishstick outfit includes LEGO and Fall Guys style variants for use in those respective game modes.

Fishstick includes three selectable styles added through game updates. The Pirate style arrived in Update v8.00, the VR style in Update v9.10, and the World Cup style in Update v9.40. The World Cup style was provided free to existing Fishstick owners who logged in between July 24-28, 2019, during the Fortnite World Cup Finals.

The Fish Food Set includes more than 20 cosmetic items, featuring the Bootstraps pickaxe, Coral Cruiser glider, and several themed wraps. Fishstick first appeared as an NPC character in Chapter 2 Season 5 at the Sticks location, acting as a business owner who interacted with players through dialogue.

The skin's tagline, "Keep far away from Maki Master," references another outfit from the Sushi collection, creating a humorous predator-prey dynamic between the two characters. Fishstick has become one of Fortnite's iconic mascot characters alongside Peely, appearing in numerous promotional materials and story events.
