Why Is Young Ryze So Rare?
Young Ryze released on July 17, 2009, as a bonus for players who pre-ordered the standard Retail edition of League of Legends, one of three skins that came bundled with the game’s physical launch alongside Silver Kayle and Black Alistar. Each of the three was tied to a different version of the box: Silver Kayle to the Collector’s Edition specifically, Black Alistar to the Digital pre-order, and Young Ryze to the standard Retail pre-order.
The skin was originally called Human Ryze before Riot renamed it following Ryze’s 2016 rework, and it shows the champion before his transformation into the arcane-powered mage players know today, with a man bun and mohawk in place of his usual look. Estimates put the number of original owners in the tens of thousands, a small fraction of today’s player base.
How Players Access Young Ryze Today
Riot permanently disabled skin code redemption in 2014, closing the last door to a Young Ryze account the original way. The physical Retail boxes were never reprinted, and the skin has never returned through Hextech Crafting, Mystery Gifting, or any event since.
That leaves buying an account that already has it as the only realistic path. Young Ryze accounts for sale often carry the other two Collector’s Edition skins alongside it, since many original owners from 2009 picked up all three at once.
